In a time of self-gratification, social media and societal divergence, soul pop artist Emily Curtis is a reviving and innovatively commanding voice that evokes feelings of wisdom and empowerment. Growing up watching her father perform around her hometown of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, music has always been a focal point of her life. Curtis has had an unwavering passion for music even from a young age, where she attempted to jumpstart bands with other girls on local playgrounds. This passion would only grow as she got older.
While attending The University of South Carolina, she joined the female a cappella group, The Cocktails, which influenced her to start her own solo career following graduation from USC. Her experience with The Cocktails is one of the core catalysts for her brand new single, “Battleshade” off of her upcoming debut EP, Hindsight. As the second track off of the EP, the song upholds a fierce and symbolic significance that induces the power and universal confidence of all women. “Battleshade” maintains a smooth cohesion to the four additional tracks it accompanies on the EP.
With the upcoming release of her debut EP, Curtis is on a mission to inspire hope and share her heart with her audience in a way that is both authentic and hopeful. Hindsight is a narrative recount of Curtis’ experiences of growing up as a young woman and learning from her past. Every track on the EP has a firm representation of these occurrences while remaining true to her roots.
